About Dot Dirt
Dot Dirt is an independent buying-guide site about string trimmers, the tools many people call weed eaters or weed wackers.
We write for homeowners who trim their own fence lines, walkways and garden beds. Our aim is simple: help you pick a trimmer that fits your yard, your hands and the battery or fuel you already use.
What we cover
Our guides cover battery trimmers from 20V to 80V, gas trimmers, and models that take edger, pruner or brush cutter attachments. We sort them by power, weight, shaft style, cutting width and how the line loads.
We also answer the questions that come up after you buy, like which line size to use, why line keeps snapping, how long a battery takes to charge and how to store a trimmer for winter.
How we work
We read the specs, the manuals and each maker's own information for every trimmer we cover. We also look at what owners often report after a season or two of use.
Then we turn it into plain guides, side-by-side comparisons and clear picks. Our How we research page explains the steps.
What we are not
We don't make or sell trimmers, and no brand pays us to rank its products. Dot Dirt isn't affiliated with EGO, Greenworks, WORX, BLACK+DECKER, CRAFTSMAN, DeWalt, Milwaukee, Ryobi or any other maker.
We don't claim to have run every trimmer ourselves. When we pick something, we say why, based on its specs, its features and owner feedback.
How the site is paid for
Some links here go to stores like Amazon. If you buy through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
That never decides which trimmers we pick. Our affiliate disclosure has the details.
